Code Blue

Leonardo exploration under image guidance · hand painted finish

Art direction, character design · Three law enforcement bodies · In development

Character turnaround for a Mesa Valley PD patrol officer: front, back and three-quarter views in duty vest and radio harness, with the department seal and shoulder patch set beside him.

An original crime drama set in the fractured city of Mesa Valley. I directed the character design, faction identity, vehicle design and all department branding.

I leaned on AI tooling hard here to get through pre-production fast. Leonardo did the exploration and thumbnails, always under image guidance from licensed photo reference, my own renders or my own sketches. Never a text prompt on its own. Every final plate is then painted over and photobashed by hand in Photoshop. The design calls are mine.

Plates carry the mark THEBEAT, which was the internal working title. The project was renamed Code Blue before release and this artwork predates the change.

Mesa Valley, a city that had to read as a place with two authorities running it.

Turnaround for an MVPD SWAT officer in plate carrier and balaclava carrying a carbine, shown front, back and three-quarter with the department seal alongside.
